Since December 2014, Maarten Loos has been working at Máxima MC as a vascular surgeon. He is specialized in minimally invasive vascular surgery. His interests lie in expanding endovascular possibilities within vascular surgery, enabling the most optimal treatment for vulnerable vascular patients. “Thanks to new treatment techniques and modern equipment, it is increasingly possible to operate without fully exposing the blood vessels. Instead, we only need to make small punctures through which we perform the procedure. Not everything needs to be done with a scalpel anymore. This spares the patient a major operation and makes treatment safer.”

In addition, Loos works closely with sports physicians Edwin Achterberg and Paul Schreuder, and movement scientist Martijn van Hooff on the diagnostics and treatment of vascular problems in endurance athletes, such as cyclists and speed skaters. This multidisciplinary team within Máxima MC is part of an STZ TEC recognition, through which they are committed to innovative and specialized care for athletes with exercise‑induced vascular conditions.

Scientific Research

In 2011, Loos obtained his PhD at Maastricht University with his dissertation ‘Surgical management of chronic inguinal pain syndromes’, concerning chronic pain following inguinal hernia repair. He is currently conducting research into various vascular surgery topics.
