Postoperative follow‑up
Every surgical treatment includes follow‑up care, although the extent of this follow‑up differs depending on the type of procedure.
After a release procedure, you will have a follow‑up appointment with the sports medicine department 6–18 months after surgery. This visit includes a consultation with the physician, an ultrasound examination, and a maximal exercise test with blood pressure monitoring.
If you are free of symptoms and all tests are normal, no further treatment is needed. However, if symptoms return, it is always advisable to come back for re‑evaluation.
After a reconstruction, such as arterial shortening, you will also undergo an MRI scan in addition to the usual follow‑up. As with other procedures, no additional appointments are required if you remain symptom‑free.
If you have had a reconstruction using a venous patch, follow‑up is more frequent. After the initial postoperative check, you will return every five years to monitor the condition of the artery. These five‑year follow‑ups take place in our vascular laboratory at the radiology department, followed by a brief consultation with the vascular surgeon to discuss your progress.
Consultation with the physician
During this appointment, we discuss how the surgery went, whether you are experiencing any symptoms, and address any other concerns or topics that may need attention.
Follow‑up diagnostics
After that, we perform targeted examinations to assess how the surgery has healed. We do this using imaging tests as well as a maximal exercise test to check whether blood flows freely through the artery again.
Completing the follow‑up
Based on the results, we determine whether a further appointment is necessary. If you have no symptoms, no additional follow‑up is required (with the exception of the five‑year check‑ups after a vascular reconstruction with a patch).
If your symptoms return, you are of course always welcome to come back so we can assess whether anything has changed over time.

Accepteert mijn zorgverzekeraar onze zorg?
Zeer waarschijnlijk wel. Echter zijn er uitzonderingen, het is altijd raadzaam om uw verzekering te contacteren of onze zorg wordt vergoed.
